GAS FURNACE SERVICE CALL PRE-SCHEDULING CHECK LIST
- 1. Is your thermostat in the “heat” position (and not still in cooling mode)?
- 2. Is the temperature set above (or higher than) the indoor temperature showing on the thermostat?
- 3. Is there power to the furnace? Try turning the fan to “ON” using the fan switch on the thermostat to test for power to furnace. Have the circuit breakers been checked at the electrical panel? Is the SSU switch (looks like a light switch on a gray box) at the furnace in the “ON” position?
- 4. Has the furnace filter been replaced recently? All 1” thick furnace filters should be replaced monthly. 2” thick or high capacity filters can most likely be changed every other month or once a quarter (depending on your lifestyle). If the system is running but you have not changed your filter, the filter needs to be replaced before we schedule to come out.
- 5. Check all return air grilles to make sure they are not blocked by furniture? (The Return Air Grills are normally located on your walls or floors. They are wide and flat.) Check all supply registers to make sure they are open, not blocked, and blowing air.
- 6. If the furnace is NEW and while running, there is a small amount of light smoke coming out of the ductwork when it is first turned on remember that this is normal. The first few times the furnace is “fired” this may occur due to the furnace heat exchanger being coated with oil at the factory to prevent corrosion when shipping.
- 7. CONDENSATE PUMP: (Basement/Attic/Crawl/Garage). There is a safety switch on the condensate pump that will shut off the compressor to the outdoor unit if there is a problem with the pump or if the condensate and drain are full. Here are things to check: (a) Is the condensate pump plugged in? (b) Is it full of water (there should be an inspection hole that you can look into)? (c) Is the drain tube full? If the condensate pump is plugged in and the pump or tube is full of water – we need to send out a Technician.
- 8. PVC/FLUES OR INTAKES: Check to make sure these are clear – not blocked or covered up.
- 9. Remember – if the problem is caused by a maintenance related item (i.e., air filter clogged, SSU being turned off, breakers tripped, return air grilles blocked, supply air registers closed, etc.) the service call will be C.O.D.
- 10. IF YOUR FURNACE IS STILL NOT WORKING – PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE, (866) 521-1680 and we will be glad to set up a Service Call for you.
AIR CONDITIONING SERVICE CALLS PRE-SCHEDULING CHECK LIST
- 1. THERMOSTATS: Is your thermostat in the “cool” position – if so most thermostats will indicate a ‘snowflake’ icon on the display (and not still in heating mode)? Is the thermostat set below the “programmed” set point? If your thermostat is set for COOL does the fan come on at the furnace?
- 2. Check your filters. Are they clean or clogged? All 1” thick furnace filters should be replaced monthly. 2” thick or high capacity filters can most likely be changed every other month or once a quarter (depending on your lifestyle). If the system is running but you have not changed your filter, the filter needs to be replaced before we schedule to come out. The cells of an Electronic Air Cleaner (other than the Carrier Infinity Air Purifier) can be taken out and washed with very mild soapy water – rinsed and left out to dry (usually overnight) and then replaced in the unit.
- 3. Check Breakers in your panel. If ‘OFF’ flip the breaker – this should turn your AC back on.
