Summer is here, and the weather is heating up! We have already had record high temperatures and it is likely that you’ve already turned on your air conditioner several times. Here are some helpful ways to survive the summer heat and keep your air conditioner working at peak efficiency.
#1: Check the filters.
Your air filters play a huge role in the overall function of your air conditioning system. Check the air filter once a month and replace or clean it as needed. This is especially crucial during the summer air because allergens and dust are circulating even more than usual. If the filter gets full of stuff, the system is required to work harder to cool the air. Cleaning and/or replacing the filter is an easy way to save energy and save money on your AC usage. Not to mention, it is very important in keeping your system working well for years to come.
#2: Get a programmable thermostat.
Programmable thermostats are one of our favorite recent inventions. Not only are they incredibly convenient, they can also save you money. Wireless programmable thermostats can save up to 20% on utility bills, year-round! They work alongside cooling systems, so you can say goodbye to your old thermostat. We are proud to carry several Côr thermostat models including the Original Côr Wi-Fi thermostat, the Côr 5, and the Côr 7. These offer 7-day programmability, Touch-N-Go® features, and the ability to adjust your thermostat while you are away from home.
#3: Call a professional.
Regular AC maintenance is key to keeping your system working as it should. During AC tune-up appointments, we will clean the filters, check to make sure that all of the inner components are working as they should and if we notice any repairs that need to be made, we will talk to you about that and figure out a plan.
Summer should be a time to enjoy the weather and the long days, while staying cool at the same time. Contact us today if you need a AC repair, AC installation, or an AC tune-up! We’re standing by ready to help you stay comfortable all summer long.
This past Saturday a team of Specialty Heating & Cooling employees volunteered their time at the Oregon Humane Society through our giving back program, SHCCares. Our time was in remembrance of Ben Snodgrass. Ben was a long time employee of Specialty Heating & Cooling who passed away earlier this year. He loved animals and his family had asked that his memory be carried on through supporting the Oregon Humane Society.
While at the Oregon Humane Society, the group worked on cleaning up the dog-walking paths behind the facility. We also learned about the history of OHS & the organization’s long-term goals for expansion. We also had a tour of the facility and got information about additional volunteering that we can do as a group in the future. One of our favorite parts was meeting several dogs as they were being walked along the path.
“I have known about OHS for a long time and have adopted a dog from them in the past, but did not know about all the history and what they do as an organization beyond adoptions. It was a great way to remember Ben in this special way. I also enjoyed spending time with our staff outside of work, we have great people who work for us!” – Owner, Sarah Streeter
“I had a great day of giving my time to an organization that I love. All of my life, my pets have been adopted from shelters. I enjoyed spending time with my co-workers outside of office hours working on a project to service our community. A part of our time at OHS was spent on a tour of their facilities learning about their various programs that they offer to our community. I am very much looking forward to contributing on future projects.” – Tanya S.
“I would like to thank Specialty Heating and Cooling and the Oregon Humane Society for providing the opportunity to honor Ben Snodgrass, by volunteering as a group. OHS was an organization that Ben was very fond of and after seeing what it is they do, I think we all understand why Ben was so fond of them. Having 13 co-workers participate in the maintenance of the walking trails was very rewarding and a fantastic way to honor Ben. If you haven’t volunteered at OHS please consider doing so, the work they do for all the animals is amazing.” – Jeff S.
We love being a part of the local community and giving back. To learn more about what we’ve done with our SHC Cares program, visit here.
The official first day of summer is on June 21. Is your cooling system up for the task of keeping you comfortable this year? If you’ve been wondering if 2018 is the year to get a new ductless system installed, it’s time to act! There will be plenty of warm summer days ahead and getting your new system up and running soon is important. A new ductless system will keep you cool this summer and warm in the winter – with just one machine!
Ductless systems are an amazing affordable solution for homes that lack the ductwork that many traditional heating and cooling units use. They can be installed in various places, such as ADUs, tiny homes, remodeled houses, manufactured homes, historic homes, and new construction homes! For homes that use electric or oil heat, replacing with a ductless system can save significant money.
How does a ductless system work and what are the benefits?
Ductless heat pumps use innovative technology that release cool and warm air efficiently! An outdoor unit connects to a bundle of cables as well as a refrigerant line, which is kept at the ground level of your home. This outside unit connects to the indoor unit, which is mounted to one machine head, or multiple heads, which are installed at central locations in the home to provide even heating and cooling. Each head has a remote control that allows you to adjust the temperature as needed, based off of whatever makes you most comfortable.
Ductless systems are very energy efficient, which makes it a great solution for people looking to save energy and reduce their utility bill. They do not use excess electricity and you don’t need to worry about hauling in big, heavy window air conditioners every summer when the weather heats up. Another benefit is the incredible quiet that these systems provide. Most homeowners hardly recognize that their machine is running. In addition, for individuals with illness, or those living with asthma or allergies, ductless systems include air purification systems inside that can help clean the air and reduce exposure to pollen, dust, dander, or germs!
Is a ductless system right for me?
A ductless system offers comfort at the touch of a button. All year long, you will stay cool or warm, with one system. No matter how hot the summer is this year in the Pacific Northwest, you can rely on your system keeping you cool. Not sure if a ductless system is right for you? Our knowledgeable team at Specialty Heating & Cooling can provide options on which ductless system is right for your budget and your home’s unique layout. Contact us today for more information!
