We are proud of our outstanding team of employees at Specialty! Each one has a unique personality and skillset that makes our company an awesome place to work. David Eales who is our master number cruncher at Specialty, celebrates 10 years with our company this year! David does a great job for us, so we thought we would give you a chance to get to know him a little bit.
Where did you grow up, what brought you to the Portland area?
Where do I start? I was born in England. When I was two, my parents moved to Bulawayo, Rhodesia in Africa. We lived in Rhodesia (presently Zimbabwe) and Botswana for 16 years before coming to the United States. I met my wife in Chicago at college, and we have lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Florida, and now in Oregon (10 years).
Tell us about your family.
I have one brother and one sister, both younger than I am, who live in England. My mother is also in England and taking care of my grandfather who turns 97 in October. My wife and I have been married for 26 years, and we have three birds and one amazingly laidback cat.
How long have you worked at Specialty?
I’ve been at SHC for 10 years, 1 month and 25 days, but who’s counting?
Share a fond or funny memory from working at Specialty?
I cannot think of one particular memory. There have been several over the years and will continue as we have a great group of employees at SHC. Hang on. Do the three deer grazing outside my office window while I was crunching numbers count?
Name one celebrity you’d like to have coffee with.
Seve Ballesteros (pro-golfer, who unfortunately passed away in 2011).
What’s one of the best gifts you’ve ever received?
RoxBox (a 4-CD collection of music by my favorite band, Roxette)
What was the last book that left a lasting impact on you?
The Third Target by Joel C Rosenberg, and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.
