Top Reasons You Should Replace Your Water Heater

The availability of warm, running water is necessary for households around the country. Whether it’s a warm bath or hot water to clean your dishes in, people rely on hot water to complete day to day tasks. That means your water heater is put to good use each day and over time, it may start showing signs that it needs replacing. Here are some of the main signs that your water heater needs to be replaced.

#1: Time.
No product will last forever, unfortunately. Water heaters will generally last for about a decade before they need to be replaced. If it’s not heating water like it should or it’s starting to leak, it may be showing signs of its age. If you have lived in your home at least that long and the water heater hasn’t been replaced, then you will need to plan on replacing it.

#2: Noise.
Is the water heater making a lot of noise at the tank? As it ages, it can start to rumble as it starts to heat up the water. This could be because it’s inefficient and it’s taking more energy and strain to heat the water. If your water heater is making noises, don’t ignore it. It could be a sign that something is wrong, and damage could occur if you don’t pay attention.

#3: Leaking.
Sometimes an old water heater will start to leak, leaving water on the floor around the tank. Leaks are never a good thing to have, as it could cause damage to your property that could be expensive and inconvenient. Leaks are usually caused by expansion of metal in the tank and as the water heater gets older, a fracture can happen. Small amounts of water will start leaking through these gaps as the water continues to heat each cycle. Over time, this could cause ruined carpeting or hardwood flooring, saturated belongings in the area, or even mold build up.

#4: Not heating.
One of the most obvious signs of an old water heater is water that simply isn’t warm. This could be caused by a broken heating element, a mis-adjusted thermostat, or simply that the water heater is not working as it should anymore.

Benefits of Preventative Maintenance

May has already had record breaking temperatures into the 80s and 90s and people are starting to use their air conditioning systems a little bit earlier than normal. Summer is approaching fast, and now is the perfect time to get your annual air conditioning tune-up appointment scheduled so you can be ready to stay comfortable for the upcoming warm months.  Staying cool is important, but there are also additional benefits to staying on top of preventative maintenance for your air conditioning system.

Benefit #1: Improves Energy Efficiency.
System maintenance allows your system to use energy more efficiently, which in turn, saves you money. Tune-up appointments include cleaning blades, coils, and other inside components that you may not see. A clean unit generates clean, cool air in a more efficient way and that means it will cost you less to operate the unit, even when its being used a lot!

Benefit #2: Increases Life Span.
Your air conditioning system can run well and last longer throughout its lifecycle with regular preventative maintenance appointments.  We unfortunately see many systems break down or need regular repairs simply because they haven’t been taken care of and maintenance has been neglected. Just like your car needs tune-ups on a regular basis, so does your HVAC system and air conditioner!

Benefit #3: Improves Air Quality.
The air you breathe matters and oftentimes, you are breathing dirty air and don’t even know it. Dirt, dust, and debris can accumulate around the unit’s components and cages and these particles can make their way into the air that your system blows into your home. Our HVAC technicians will clean your system and ensure that the dirt and other debris is removed, so there aren’t any harmful particles polluting the inside air of your home or office.

Keeping your air conditioner in top notch shape is important to surviving the upcoming spring and summer heat!  When was the last time you’ve had a tune-up on your air conditioning system? Does your current system need a repair to get it working well? Or, perhaps your current system is inefficient or unreliable. Now is the time to contact us for information on getting a new one installed and ready to go. We can work with you and your budget to find the right system. Call us today to get started.

How Dust Impacts Your HVAC System

No matter how often you clean your home, dust accumulates quickly. Does it feel like it’s piling up almost immediately? Constant dust build-up can be an issue for every homeowner, but did you know that dust can impact your heating and cooling system, too? Here’s how.

Dust and ducts:
How’s the ductwork in your home? Do you know if it has leaks or cracks? If there are cracks or areas where air can leak in or out, you’re not only losing money in wasted clean air, but you’re also allowing dirty, untreated air into your home. Untreated air is full of dust, pollutants, pollen, and other harmful particles that impact the air quality of your home. Be sure to have your ductwork sealed properly. If you do, you’ll save money and you’ll likely notice a difference in the amount of dust that is building up around your home. We are proud to use Aeroseal technology to help seal leaky ductwork. Talk to us about how it can work to seal any gaps, leaks, or cracks in your home’s ductwork.

Dust and air filters:
Your heating and cooling system is made up of many different components, but the air filters are one of the primary ways that your system traps dust, dirt, and other debris. However, if you neglect regularly cleaning and/or replacing of your filters, dust will build up and be automatically re-circulated throughout the air in your home. That means that your home will not only be dusty, but you’ll be breathing dusty air! Avoid unnecessary build-up and clean your filters on a consistent basis.

Dust and preventative maintenance:
Spring is here and for many homeowners, that means spring cleaning is in full swing. This is a great time to schedule a preventative maintenance appointment with our team of experienced HVAC technicians. We will clean the inside of your system and ensure that everything is in good working order. A clean system on the inside will keep air flowing properly and bolster overall efficiency. It can also help prolong the system’s lifespan and you’ll be able to rest easy knowing that the air being circulated into your home is clean!

Need to schedule a maintenance appointment? Contact us today to get on the schedule. Or, perhaps your system is old and inefficient, or it consistently breaks down. Now is the perfect time to get it replaced. We offer financing and there are several price savings deals happening that can save you money. Ductless heating and cooling systems are wonderful options to meet your home comfort needs and the best part is, you can use one system all year long. You won’t need to worry about painting over anything or patching any sheetrock – it will look great once our team gets everything completed.

Reason #2: They will save energy.
Energy efficiency is very important for homeowners today. Ductless systems will not use excess energy and electricity like electric baseboard or wall heaters or other old heating systems. That means you’ll not only save energy, but you will see a savings on your utility bill each month.

Reason #3: They don’t require significant maintenance.

With regular maintenance, you won’t need to worry about excessive break downs in the middle of the cold autumn and winter days.

Ductless systems can be used in a variety of different home styles and designs, no matter how big or small the space. They’re a great solution for homes because they can be configured easily, where as traditional HVAC systems can’t.

Then, we’ll get the installation scheduled and before you know it, you’ll be ready to stay comfortable all year long!

What’s the difference between a heat pump and air conditioning?

Pacific Northwest weather gives us a little bit of everything! Some months have more rain and cold than others, but during the summer, we definitely get some hot weather that can get uncomfortable. Many homeowners have furnaces that are used during the winter, but when it comes to the summertime, they’re left with old, inefficient window air conditioners. If you’ve ever wondered what the differences are between air conditioning systems and a heat pump, and if a heat pump is right for you, we can help!

The differences between a heat pump and an air conditioner:
Both systems use indoor and outdoor coils that will transfer refrigerant. Air conditioning systems will absorb heat that passes over the indoor coil within the system, which means that during the summer, cool air is transferred to the ductwork of your home and hot air is moved out. However, heat pumps will take outside heat to warm your home and will cool it by taking the heat out in the winter and in the summer, it will remove hot air and bring cold air in – all in one system. No matter what time of year it is, a heat pump will provide the comfort you need.

Heat pumps and an air conditioner are both great choices when it comes to the wide range of options between the two for cooling your home.  Upgrading to a heat pump can be beneficial since it heats and cools the home and can save significant money on your utility bill year around, which means that the cost of the unit will likely pay for itself over time quicker than an air conditioner.

Which system is right for your home?
A new heating and cooling system for your home is an investment, but it is something that you won’t regret, because it will add value to your home and provide you and your family with a better quality of life!
